The ShodaiRado's name comes from shodai (初代?), meaning first generation, and Rado, which comes from Rodan's Japanese name, Radon (ラドン?).

The ShodaiRado is popular amongst fans. The suit featured a large, but slim body, enormous wings and a large jagged-head. This Rodan's face was different from the other suits; It had a menacing expression and its beak was broader and more jagged and actually showed teeth inside the mouth, though in some movies like Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla 2 some of the other Rodan suits bear teeth as well, it's brows covered it's eyes and is unknown if this Rodan had any pupils, depicted in models of the suit, is a possible suggestion. It also had some very jagged horns on it's head.

- This is was the only Rodan suit that had Mahogany color to it.
- ShodaiRado is probably one of the most menacing Rodan suits ever made. In fact, the Rodan suit in Godzilla: Final Wars, FinalRado, is practically based off of this suit however the beak and wings are slightly different.
- This Rodan appears to have no pupils which sports it's base on birds which coincidentally dinosaurs and pterosaurs are close descendants. However in a few sculpted dioramas and maquettes, ShodaiRado has been shown to bare pupils, which leads to the conclusion that this Rodan possibly did have pupils, since from a distance, most people can be fooled in appearance of birds sporting no eye pupils, though this could just be a fans speculation. In the release of the revoltech, Rodan it is shown that it had no eye pupils, but rather pitch black eyes.
