Kumonga's name is derived from the Japanese word for spider, kumo. The English dub of the film gives Kumonga the name Spiga, which was derived from the word spider
The Kumonga prop was absolutely massive, being roughly 5 metres long and needing nearly 20 people simply to operate. Due to the hot lights the set had, the sweat from the people controlling Kumonga to pour down like rain
Kumonga was one of the kaiju that appeared in the first ever Godzilla video game, Godzilla vs. 3 Giant Monsters. In the fact, two Kumongas are able to appear from the holes Megalon dug up in the previous round

Alongside comics, Kumonga has appeared in several video games such as Heart-Pounding Monster Island!!, Movie Studio Tour, Generations, Trading Battle, Kaiju Collection and the Pinball game
Unlike most spiders, Kumonga is capable of shooting webs out of its mouth. This may have been inspired by a group of spiders known as a spitting spider, which spit their webs from their mouths
In The Art of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, concept art for Kumonga is seen alongside other cut kaiju like Gigan, Anguirus and Gamera. Kumonga like the others were cut due to how much money it would cost for them to appear for so little amount of screentime
Even though Kumonga does not feature in the video game Godzilla: Unleashed, the chirps Kumonga makes can be heard as Jet Jaguar does a series of moves
In a what-if scenario in the book Godzilla: Tokyo SOS Super Complete Works, a mecha Kumonga appears alongside other mechanised kaiju after the JXSDF extracted DNA from Kumonga

The Kumongas, Kamangas, Kanengas and Zenbungas first appeared when Otaki Factory and Jet Jaguar went to investigate a massive spiderweb. A group of Kumongas tried to attack Jet but the robot easily took them out. During the fight, the Kumongas took one of the group members to their nest, only to have the rest of Otaki Factory get them out, Jet dispatching them before they all retreated.
Random/Useless Facts
This is the first version of Kumonga to have named variations, Kamanga, Kanenga and Zenbunga, although it isn't the first to have different versions specifically, as the anime trilogy ones had smaller subspecies
The Kumonga's designs take inspiration from several different kaiju. The slime inside looks like Hedorah, the body's and drill arms resemble Megalon, the wings resemble Kamacuras and Kamanga and Zenbunga's claws resemble Gigan's
The basic species of Kumonga, Kumonga Cytodes, is based off of a real life species of spider, Scytodes kumonga, a spider discovered in 2020 that was actually named after Kumonga
Hanenga and Kamanga were revealed on the 27th of May, 2021 on the official website and were both trademarked on October 6th. Zenbunga was revealed later on the 4th of June and wasn't trademarked unlike the others
Each of the variations have different names, Kumonga Cytodes for the normal variant, Kumonga Aratus for Kamanga, Kumonga Falcipes got Kanenga and Kumonga Ultima for Zenbunga
And that's Kumonga. As someone who thinks spiders are very adorable, I wanna hug Kumonga. Also, Jet Jaguar is next for the 3rd last episode of this series and the last episode that has a kaiju on the spinwheel. What are your thoughts on Kumonga?
