Anguirus (アンギラス Angirasu?) of the Legends continuity is an Ankylosaurus kaiju who appeared in the IDW comic series Godzilla: Legends as the protagonist of the series' first issue.

Anguirus' name comes from the Japanese spelling of the name of the dinosaur genus Ankylosaurus (アンキロサウルス Ankirosaurusu), upon which the monster's design is based.

Personality[]
Like most incarnations, Anguirus is a tenacious fighter toward other kaiju. Despite his ferocity, however, he does not directly harm the humans that brought him to the surface, suggesting a protective side to him or a single-minded focus on whatever foe is at present. His refusal to back down was most apparent during his battle with Destoroyah: even though Destoroyah was a brutal and relentless foe, Anguirus faced the beast in a one-on-one battle and refused to retreat. Eventually, with the assistance of the military's freezer weapons, Anguirus successfully overcame Destoroyah and forced the creature to retreat.
History[]
As a city is attacked by Destoroyah, a scientist named Dr. Anders uses an experimental device to try to call Godzilla to the city to fight. While the device works, it calls Anguirus instead. Anguirus attacks Destoroyah, even though Destoroyah is much larger and stronger. Even with Anguirus' perseverance, and Dr. Anders' second attempt at using the G-signaler, Destoroyah is too powerful for them to do any lasting damage.
Destoroyah almost kills Anguirus until Col. Matsumiya uses a helicopter to send a huge tank of freon to smash into Destoroyah. Anguirus then rolls into a ball and slams into the partially frozen Destoroyah, defeating it and scoring his first victory over another kaiju. Afterward, Godzilla arrives, and at first it seems that Anguirus and he will face off. However, Godzilla displays respect towards Anguirus and passes him by, instead deciding to focus on the human military as his larger threat.

Anguirus has numerous spikes over his shell-like carapace to protect him from enemy attacks and inflict damage if Anguirus slams his back into an opponent.
Trivia[]
- Anguirus' battle with Destoroyah is one of the few times another opponent aside from Godzilla has faced Destoroyah and won. This is especially a notable feat for Anguirus, who has secured few victories outside his film appearances.
