Chibi Rodan (ちびラドン Chibi Radon?) is a young pteranodon kaiju and a character of the Chibi Godzilla children's series, who first appeared in the 2018 children's book Do Your Best, Chibi Godzilla. Chibi Rodan is a child version of Rodan who is a friend of Chibi Godzilla and other kaiju.
Name[]
Chibi Rodan's name comes from "chibi" (ちび?), which is Japanese for "small" or "little", and Rodan. In Japanese popular culture, "Chibi" describes child-sized characters with exaggerated and cute appearances to appeal to younger audiences, denoting this Rodan being intended for children.
Design[]
Appearance[]
Chibi Rodan's design is a simplified version of the traditional kaiju, with orange skin, two crests, yellow feet, and a white underbelly. His eyes are large with black pupils.
Personality[]
Chibi Rodan is an extremely narcissistic and thinks very highly of himself and his wings to the point where he considers all monsters who can't fly to be pigs. His actual ego is extremely fragile, as when any monster either calls him out or somehow insults him, Rodan immediately falls to the ground. Chibi Mothra even states that Chibi Rodan is aware of how lame he is. Chibi Rodan also loves it when girls give him compliments.
History[]
Chibi Godzilla Raids Again[]
The Ruler of the Skies, Chibi Rodan[]
Chibi Rodan noticed Chibi Godzilla, Chibi Mechagodzilla and Chibi Mothra hiking up a mountain. Chibi Rodan questioned why Chibi Godzilla and Chibi Mechagodzilla simply didn't fly, only to realize that they couldn't. Chibi Rodan then began to believe the two were jealous of his wings because of how grand they were. Chibi Mechagodzilla pointed out that Chibi Mothra's wings were much nicer and Rodan's were quite plain. This caused Rodan to fall to the ground, his ego completely shattered. To get him off the ground, Chibi Mothra began complimenting Chibi Rodan, revitalizing him, allowing him to fly again, right before Chibi Mechagodzilla said he was like a guy who was unpopular, causing Rodan to fall again. Chibi Rodan would get revitalized again and refuse to give Chibi Godzilla a ride up the mountain, saying monsters who couldn't fly were pigs. Chibi Rodan would then ask why being a narcissist was bad, going on a long-winded speech, eventually thinking he was a bother. It was then his own words that caused him to fall down to the ground.
Monster Study Session[]
Chibi Rodan would be brought to the monster study session. When Chibi Godzilla asked what felt best to destroy, Chibi Rodan answered the best thing to destroy would be common sense. Chibi Rodan elaborated, saying that by destroying the fetters of common sense, free thought could be achieved. He was completely wrong.
The Sage of Grudges, Chibi Hedorah[]
Chibi Rodan would once again join a monster study session, one being lead by Chibi Hedorah. When Chibi Hedorah greeted the kaiju he would be teaching, he didn't seem to recognize or remember Chibi Rodan, destroying the pterosaur's ego and causing him to fall to the ground.
The War at Low Tide[]
Chibi Rodan joined a group of kaiju in clam digging when Chibi Hedorah appeared to start cleaning the beach, once again not recognizing Chibi Rodan and causing him to fall to the ground again. Eventually Chibi Rodan got back up and decided to help clean the beach as he wanted to make it as beautiful as him. Chibi Hedorah would retort, saying that the beach was already like Chibi Rodan in that it was full of trash. After Chibi Rodan fell to the ground again, Chibi Hedorah told Chibi Mechagodzilla to clean him off the beach.
A Mighty Monster's Instincts[]
Chibi Rodan witnessed as Chibi Godzilla began firing his heat ray or letting out a roar while sneezing, believing Godzilla was going through a vocal transformation. He later witnessed the letter Chibi Godzilla made about going on a voyage as his destructive urges grew. Like the rest of the group, he was relived when Chibi Godzilla returned, due to Godzilla only having a cold.
