Origins[]

A massive bird of prey, the Crow of Thorns roosts in the highlands of Skull Island. Standing at over 30 feet tall with a 50 foot wingspan, the Crow of Thorns is an imposing bird, with a beak that is strong and sharp enough to crack rock or bone.

The feathers of the Crow of Thorns are made of thousands of bristles, rather than feathers: something closer to pine needles. The longer flight "feathers" are bladed leaves, not unlike those of pampas grass, that are capable of cutting flesh to the bone.

In the scruff of thistles and needles around its neck, vines of thorny flowers grow intertwined. The vines are mostly covered by the needle-feathers, but are clearly seen on the feet and claws, where they come out to wrap around the bone.

These birds are extremely intelligent and social creatures. They are capable not only of using the tools that they find, but also of crafting their own tools and using them as needed. After a previous expedition to Skull Island left digging and building tools behind, the crows of thorns began using them to build more elaborate nesting structures in the higher mountain forests, which are burgeoning into makeshift townships.

A Crow of Thorns remembers faces and can form relationships with other creatures, including humans. Much like their smaller, regular corvid counterparts, these avians are happy to accept gifts and might return the favor by bringing other items back.

On the flip side, they are quick to recognize creatures that have harmed them and will warn their flocks about possible threats
