The Dogora (ドゴラ,   Dogora?) of the Planet of the Monsters continuity is a giant hydra-like kaiju created by Toho that first appeared in Godzilla: Monster Apocalypse, a prequel novelization for the 2017 film, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters.

History

Godzilla: Monster Apocalypse

Dogora was the second monster confirmed in the history of mankind. The population of London sang God Save the Queen when Dogora was defeated. When it was, crystallized parts of the monster fell from the sky. Total casualties caused by Dogora's rampage were estimated to be over 3.9 million.

Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters

Dogora was one of few monsters that briefly appeared in the prologue of the film.

Abilities

Godzilla The Planet Eater - Toho Special Effects Card Collection - Dogora

Dogora was able to withstand the heat of atmospheric entry after attacking the Mir. It potentially also fed on this generated heat. Hornets that were bred inside the satellite were the only survivors of the attack.

Dogora preyed on many victims of its arrival while they were alive.

Based on biology of its predecessor, its possible that this Dogora was taking in carbon content from the victims.

Trivia

  • The last speech by a news reporter of BBC who bravely reported on Dogora's presence, shortly before his death by the monster is a potential reference to the group of reporters and their final actions in the 1954 film Godzilla.
