The EMP harpoon was a weapon introduced in the 2018 Godzilla film, Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle. It was the natural evolution of the EMP probe, being constructed from the anti-Godzilla material known as nanometal, while being scaled for combat with Godzilla Earth.

Appearance[]

The appearance of the EMP harpoon takes a detour from the probe, looking much more akin to its namesake. Unlike the original EMP probe, the harpoon relies on its own momentum to bury itself in its target, and has no rear-mounted thruster.

Function[]

Much like the probe, the EMP harpoon functions by digging itself into an enemy and causing an electromagnetic overload inside them via electromagnetic pulse.

History[]

Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle[]

The EMP harpoon was used as the final act in the plot to kill Godzilla Earth. After trapping the monster in nanometal, and destroying his dorsal spines, preventing the use of a bodily shield, two harpoons were fired at the kaiju, skewering him.

As the EMP harpoons begin to cause an overload within the monster's body, Earth hunkers down, and begins to glow a bright orange, but he doesn't explode. Eventually, as Godzilla Earth retaliates through the use of a superheated dome attack, the EMP harpoons melt away in the intense heat, destroying them.
