Overview

Endopedes[1] are unidentified insectoid Titans[2][3][4] from the MonsterVerse series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, first appearing in the episode "Aftermath". The larval forms of the Endopedes are called Endoswarmers.

Name[]

The Endopede and the Endoswarmer's names refer to their insectoid appearance and their swarming behavior. In an article posted by Entertainment Weekly, the name of the creatures' larval form has been revealed to be "Endoswarmers". "Endopede" was revealed to be the name of the Endoswarmers' adult form in an AppleTV+ YouTube video.

Design[]

Development[]

Executive producer Frank Matt Fraction revealed that the Endoswarmers were created as a fun way "to remind audiences that not all Titans are 400-feet tall,".

Appearance[]

Endoswarmers are insectoid creatures with multiple legs and elongated bodies adorned with jagged black chitinous armor. These creatures hatch from round, semi-transparent eggs that emit a vibrant orange glow. In terms of size, they are slightly shorter and somewhat longer compared to an adult human.

Endoswarmers molt and leave behind empty exoskeletons upon metamorphozing into Endopedes. While maintaining their larval forms' chitinous armor and multiple limbs, Endopedes undergo a significant increase in size. These creatures are considerably larger than before. Notably, they possess four enormous horn-like mandibles that protrude from their quad-jawed maws that sport circular rows of razor-sharp teeth. Additionally, they possess lengthy tentacle-like tendrils that protrude from their maws. The undersides of Endopedes intermittently emit a deep orange glow, creating sporadic bursts of vibrant color.

Roar[]

The Endoswarmers produce a mixture of chitters and squeaks, while the Endopede produces a roar similar to that of the MUTOs.

Personality[]

Endopedes are a predatory creatures that feed on both radiation and any prey they come across. Female Endopedes lay large clutches of eggs in nurseries that contain high levels of radiation to nourish their offspring.

Upon hatching, Endoswarmers are highly aggressive and will cooperate with each other to bring down anything that they perceive as prey.

Origins[]

Monarch scientist Keiko Randa theorized that the Endoswarmers had been attracted to the surface from underground due to the radioactive energy given off by a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan.

History[]

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters[]

In 1959, a nursery of Endoswarmers was discovered beneath an abandoned power plant at Kazakhstan by Lee Shaw, William Randa, and Keiko Randa. Keiko was retrieving the Endoswarmers' genetic materials when her and Lee's footsteps caused the unstable ground beneath the nursery to crack, thus awakening the newly hatched and hungry larvae. Billy attempted to pull Keiko and Lee up as the Endoswarmers started to swarm the duo. Despite Billy and Lee's combined efforts, the Endoswarmers managed to pull Keiko down to the depths of the crater beneath them. The surviving Endoswarmers eventually molt and metamorphosized into Endopedes.

In 2015, an Endopede emerges at the Kazakh power plant through a Hollow Earth portal and attacks Lee Shaw's group, who were attempting to collapse the complex and seal the portal shut. The Endopede attempts to devour Cate Randa, but is struck by a falling piece of debris, causing it to slip back into the Hollow Earth portal, with Lee, Cate, and May Olowe-Hewitt falling in alongside it.

Abilities[]

Durability[]

Endopedes are impervious to being struck by large debris like falling concrete from the Kazakh power plant, though this does still irritate the creature. Additionally, Endopedes can survive gravitational inversion,[5] a planet's worth of gravity reversed within a split second, when traversing through Hollow Earth portals.[6]

Speed[]

Endoswarmers are able to run as fast as humans.

Strength[]

A swarm of Endoswarmers can quickly overpower an adult human.

At full maturity, Endopedes grow to a size that far surpasses their larval forms, which grants them immense physical strength thay allows them to effortlessly pick up humans with their tendrils.

Swarming[]

Endoswarmers are capable of swarming on top of each other in order to swiftly catch up to their potential victims.

Tendrils[]

Endopedes possess lengthy tentacle-like tendrils that are used to capture and pull prey into their maws.

Weaknesses[]

Limited durability[]

Endoswarmers are vulnerable to gunfire can be killed after sustaining several shots.
