Fern Birds (巨树鸟,   Kyoboku tori?) are an avian superspecies that were intended to be used in the 2017 MonsterVerse film, Kong: Skull Island, but were cut from the final production. They ultimately make their first appearance in the 2021 book, Kong and Me.

Name[]

Fern Birds are named after their fern-like plumage.

Appearance[]

Fern Birds are tall, thin birds that vaguely resemble water-wading birds such as cranes or egrets. Concept art shows that the birds stand at least a foot taller than an average man. Their primary color is green while their heads have an ornate green and white crest that grows over the face. Their back and tail feathers are long, akin to a peacock's, and resemble a large plant frond.
