Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters #5 is the seventh issue of Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters. It was released on September 28, 2011.

Description[]

"So much for good old-fashioned American ingenuity! After the historic fail of Detroit's latest 'hybrid,' the world searches for something-anything-else to pin its hopes on. Hey, speaking of hybrid... What do you get when you cross a dragon with a couple of other dragons? Uh-huh. Hail to the King, baby, in Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters #7."

Plot[]

In the mountains of Asia, a monk reads a passage from a book, saying that whoever sacrifices himself for mankind shall become one with the "Dragon King." He sees a snake crawl across the page, and remarks that "it" is awakening. He climbs to a huge temple in the mountains bearing the likeness of three serpentine dragon heads. The monk opens the door to the temple and kneels down inside and prays before a candle, saying he freely gives his life for those who suffer. The temple then is struck by lightning, after which King Ghidorah bursts free from it.

Back in the United States, Steven Woods watches Allie play with her stuffed monkey, and sadly reflects on how she will never know what a normal life is after losing her parents. Meanwhile, Godzilla storms into Washington, D.C., with the Secret Service evacuating President Ogden. A plane flies overhead and drops supplies near Woods and Allie. Survivors begin fighting over the supplies, while Woods is able to retrieve them in the confusion. Woods opens the supplies, but Allie is upset that she doesn't see any chocolate. She asks why the survivors are continuing to fight, and Woods replies that they are scared. Allie asks if Woods has ever been scared, and he says he has and has had to fight too, but not today.

In Paris, Minette and Mallorie lament that they have no subjects to order around, but state that once Battra awakens he will bring them people to do their bidding. Just then, Rodan swoops down into the city. Minette and Mallorie tell the monster that Paris is theirs, but Rodan does not listen and chases them. The twins run to the Eiffel Tower, where Battra bursts from his cocoon in his imago stage. Minette and Mallorie order Battrato kill Rodan. Battrafires his prism beams at Rodan, who avoids them. Rodan turns around in midair and flies at Battra, tearing into his wing with his talons. Minette and Mallorie order Rodan to stop, and to their surprise, he obeys. They see a newspaper at their feet chronicling Godzilla (IDW continuity)'s attacks, and decide that they must control him as well. They say that Battraand Rodan will take them to America, where they can subjugate the King of Monsters.

Allie has a dream about being at the beach with her brother Mason, but is awakened by Woods' monster finder.
