On May 10, 2024, The Hollywood Reporter reported that a sequel to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire would be produced, with David Callaham writing the script.[1] On May 21, the same source reported that Adam Wingard would not return to direct the film.[12]
On June 6, 2024, Grant Sputore was announced as the director.[2] On June 28, Deadline reported that the film would release on March 26, 2027.[3]

On January 24, 2025, Kaitlyn Dever was confirmed as a new cast member.[5] On January 31, The Hollywood Reporter released plot details that included the appearance of both Godzilla and Kong, as well as speculation that Dan Stevens would return to the cast.[4] On February 19, Jack O'Connell was added to the cast.[6]
On February 20, Delroy Lindo was added to the cast.[7]
On March 5, Matthew Modine was added to the cast roster. In addition, it was announced that the film is scheduled to commence filming in April in Australia.[8]
On April 4, Dever told Seven News' Sally Bowrey that filming for the film had started in Queensland.[13] In addition, Alycia Debnam-Carey was added to the cast roster.[9]
On April 15, Sam Neill was added to the cast roster.[10]
On April 23, Screen Queensland has disclosed that filming is ongoing at Village Roadshow Studios. In addition, its's announced that Stefan Dechant is working as the production designer, after previously doing so for Kong: Skull Island, Dan Mindel as the cinematographer, Kelly Port as the visual effects supervisor, Michael Lloyd Green as the co-screenwriter, Henry Jackman as the composer, who previously worked as such for Kong: Skull Island, and Josh Schaeffer as the editor, returning from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.[11]
On May 9, a title teaser for the film was released, with the title revealed to be Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.[14]
