Blocking is the method by which a staff member may technically prevent users from editing on Gojipedia when a user has been identified as harmful, disruptive, or has failed to follow the community guidelines. Blocks are used to prevent damage or disruption to the wiki, not to punish users.

Any user may notify another user for violating rules by simply going to the Admin noticeboard, or by contacting a bureaucrat or an administrator on their wall and then reporting the rule violation. Blocked users can appeal the block by using their message walls.

Overview

Blocking takes place in the event of a rule break or violation. Block lengths are administered to prevent further harm or discord taking place, however, staff is advised to only use this as a last resort if no negotiable option is available. The length of a block can range from one day to indefinite. A block length should ideally reflect the violation of rule. Blocks that are longer than one week should not be placed without prior discussion. Good faith will be extended to most users on the assumption they may not be familiar with wiki etiquette in general, and first instances will most likely be revered with a warning. However, administrators are free to use their discretion on whether to block or not based on the virulence of the vandalism. Generally, users are blocked for the following reasons:

  • Breaking the rules: Users who break one of the main rules listed on the policy page will receive a warning on a user's message wall to ensure the user is aware they should not break them again. The admin can send another warning if necessary before proceeding with a limited block; users may receive up to two warnings in some cases with the third time a block. If the rule that is broken is one that is specifically stated as not allowed, an indefinite block may be administered.
  • Disruptive behavior: Depending on the frequency and the extent of offending behavior, being disruptive on the wiki may range a block duration from a day to weeks with a warning beforehand; although the staff member can leave a warning instead if the disruption is minor. Hate speech, advocation of illegal topics, and any forms of racism and discrimination are not tolerated and will result in an infinite block without warning.
  • Being under the legal age: In compliance with COPPA and Fandom's Terms of Use, being under the internet consent age in your local area will result in a block and report to Fandom Staff; this will last until you are of age.
  • Sockpuppetry: Evading a block with another account will result in the extension of that block; continued evasion may result in an infinite block without warning.
  • Vandalism, spamming, and trolling: Negative activities meant to irritate users is not allowed. Do not ruin the experience of editors and readers, this will result in an infinite block without warning.

Blocked users will have the {{Template:Blocked}} on their profile.

Block length

If a user receives a block for the first time, the block will fall between a day and a week long if the requisite falls under the first two reasons. This ensures that the block is temporary and gives the user time to reflect and learn where they can improve. In the event a user breaks the rules again and another block is administered, the block will be longer than the first one's length and will increase if the user continuously breaks the rules.

Attempting to evade your block by creating alternate accounts will result in both a block for the sockpuppet and an extension on the original account. If a user or an IP has been blocked before for vandalism, and continues vandalism in further edits, then that user will be recognized a vandal-only user or IP, and will be blocked indefinitely.

Appealing a block

In the event of a misunderstanding or misinterpretation takes place from a block, the user who received the block can testify their block to the administrator who carried it out. The admin will then discuss it with the other admins to re-evaluate if the block was a mistake and/or should be modified.

To testify your block, proof must be presented that the user was being abusive or that it was a misunderstanding. Preferably, a screenshot or video, a hyperlink, or other form of evidence should be provided. Spreading false information without proof will make your claim null and void, and may get your account blocked or the ban extended. Calling in another user to advance your side of a dispute is also not recognized as evidence, due to factors such as uninvolvement and/or personal bias toward either party that can prevent a fair verdict.
