- Not to be confused with Godzillasaurus.
Gojirasaurus quayi was a medium-sized theropod dinosaur and the type species of the genus Gojirasaurus, first found in New Mexico by Kenneth Carpenter in 1997. It was around 6.5 m long, thus making it one of the largest predators of the Triassic period. It belonged to the Coelophysoidea group of carnivorous dinosaurs, which included other meat eaters such as Segisaurus and Procompsognathus.
Gojirasaurus was named after Godzilla (Gojira in Japanese) due to its large size compared to other taxa in its ecosystem.[1]
Trivia[]
- Gojirasaurus is now considered a dubious genus due to its remains being discovered to be from other species.
