Grass Hedgehogs[2][1] are a mammalian kaiju that first appeared in the MonsterVerse animated series, Skull Island.
Name[]
The species is referred to as "Grass Hedgehog" in the series' design sheets,[2] which was later confirmed to be its name in the Kong: Skull Island Cinematic Adventure creature codex.[1]
Design[]
Appearance[]
The Grass Hedgehogs are mammalian creatures characterized by their dense, elongated fur that envelops their entire body. In addition to their shaggy fur, these creatures possess distinctive features, including orange protrusions resembling vegetation that emerge from their dorsal region. They also exhibit two yellow eyes, a black nose resembling that of a feline, and three-toed feet terminating in sharp claws.
Roar[]
The Grass Hedgehogs produce vocalizations reminiscent of domestic cats, emitting soft meows and screeches. Additionally, they occasionally produce barks, adding to the range of sounds they can produce.
Personality[]
The Grass Hedgehogs displayed a predominantly docile demeanor. When encountered by Cap, Ilene, and their group of mercenaries, one of the creatures merely observed the humans before emitting a meowing sound as if acknowledging their presence. It then proceeded with its own activities without any aggressive behavior. However, another Grass Hedgehog that was captured by Kong's Hawk companion exhibited visible signs of fear and attempted to flee. Unfortunately, it was ultimately consumed by Kong, indicating that the creature's docility may not extend to all situations or interactions.
History[]
Skull Island[]
At some point before the main events of the series, a Grass Hedgehog was captured by a Kong's giant Hawk companion, which took it to the ape's temple located deep inside Skull Island. After the Hawk dropped it off on a large pedestal in the temple's courtyard, the grass hedgehog paced around nervously before being grabbed by Kong, who consumed the creature alive and whole.
While traversing through a large orange grassland area, shipwreck survivors Cap, Ilene, and their company of mercenaries encountered a Grass Hedgehog. While initially expecting it to react violently, the shipwrecked humans were relieved after the creature simply meowed at them and walked off.

Camouflage[]
The creatures possesses fur on their backs that matches the color of the tall red grass that flourishes in their native biome, allowing the creatures to blend in and evade predators.
