In 1991, Monarch discovered Rodan hibernating on the island's volcano and built a containment facility under the guise of environmental research.

In 2019, the people of a village on Isla de Mara were being evacuated by Monarch's G-Team. However, before the evacuations could finish, Emma Russell used the ORCA to awaken Rodan, who burst out of his containment site seconds later. When Monarch attacked him to lure him into fighting Ghidorah, he proceeded to pursue the Monarch fleet, annihilating the village just by flying over it. After Godzilla's presumed death, Ghidorah emerged from the ocean and landed atop the volcano, where he regenerated his missing head and released an alpha call to awaken all Titans to do his bidding.
