The Jovian Flytrap is a vegetative superspecies that first appear in the MonsterVerse animated series, Skull Island.
Name[]
The species' production name is "Venus Flytrap Creature" in the artist design sheets of Skull Island (TV series).[1] 'Jovian' means relating to Jupiter (planet) or the class of large planets that Jupiter belongs to. 'Flytrap' is a correlation to Venus flytraps, a species of carnivorous plants that prey primarily on insects.
Design[]
Appearance[]
These plants are heavily similar to glowers, with a long and thick, green stem, yellow petals with magenta marks on the insides and a large violet "head" which opens into four mandibles, revealing its large maw.
Skull Island[]
While Cap and Irene, accompanied by Sam, search for Charlie, Mike and Annie, they stumble upon a field of gigantic flowers. Irene approaches a nearby specimen as she expresses wonder at such a discovery, only for the massive vegetal to snatch her head first in its mandibles before Sam's horrified eyes. Fortunately, the two men combine their forces to cut the plant's stem before it can swallow Irene, with Sam even preparing to stab its head before Cap prevents him from doing so, warning he could kill Irene in the process. They end up pulling the latter out with effort.
With Irene pulled out, Sam laughs at how drenched she is before the two witness Cap soothing the dying plant. As they resume their search, Irene reveals she's a botanist and laughs about how ironic it would be for her to be eaten by the very things she studied for so long.
