The field works on living Titans. Kraken still doesn't read as alive. „

— Jane Harris (Godzilla: King of the Monsters - The Official Movie Novelization)

An undesignated Titan, nicknamed Kraken, is a prehistoric giant cephalopod daikaiju created by Legendary Pictures that appears in Godzilla: King of the Monsters - The Official Movie Novelization, as a minor Titan awakening with the others. It is currently unknown if Kraken appears in the 2019 film Godzilla: King of the Monsters, but he is canon to that timeline.[2]

Name

The "Kraken" is a giant squid cryptid. antagonistic towards sea vessels, similarly to Kraken himself. However, "Kraken" is just a nickname for the undesignated Titan, and it is unknown if he is the actual Kraken legend[1].

Appearance

Kraken greatly resembles an octopus or a squid, but with a massive brain protected by a cone of shell.

History

Godzilla: King of the Monsters - The Official Movie Novelization

Using radiation signatures and bio-sonic emissions, Monarch had discovered an invisible, hibernating Kraken, wrapped around the remains of a nuclear submarine that had been missing for decades in the Indian Ocean. They built a secret Monarch Outpost around him and nicknamed him Kraken, as he had not been given an official name.[1] When Ghidorah calls all Titans, Kraken disguises himself as dead to break through his containment field, before destroying the classified Monarch Outpost and hunting as a pack with the other awoken Titans. When the ORCA calls all Titans to Boston, Kraken does not arrive in time to see Godzilla become the new Alpha of all Titans (except Kong).

Abilities

Camouflage

Like octopods, Kraken can change the color and patterns of his shell and skin to become virtually invisible. He can also mimic other states, such as death, by disguising his own radiation signature[3].

Intelligence

Kraken's brain is much larger than necessary to control his body, giving him incredible intelligence surpassing most Titans. He is intelligent enough to recognize that a containment field surrounding him only works on living Titans, something even the Monarch scientists had not figured out.

Regeneration

Although it has not been witnessed, there is a great deal of evidence to suggest that Kraken can regenerate virtually any part of his body[1]. In addition, he also has multiple hearts, much like an actual octopus; this allows him to survive fatal wounds.

Strength and Combat

As they are his only limbs, Kraken uses his tentacles in combat. These are strong enough to shatter bullet-proof glass with ease, as well as being capable of dragging down a marine Monarch Outpost.

Trivia

  • The Monarch Outpost that Kraken is contained in is mentioned to be top-secret, possibly explaining why it does not appear on the Monarch Sciences website.
  • The Kraken could be based on or could be an incarnation of Gezora or the Giant Octopus .
