This Manda (マンダ,   Manda?) is the first Manda of the Singular Point continuity, and the second in the Reiwa era of the franchise as well as being the first Manda to appear as a species. It made its debut in the fifth episode of the 2021 Netflix-exclusive animated series, Godzilla Singular Point.

Name[]

In the anime, the Japanese government labels the creature "Manda", meaning "mammoth-class snake" (マンモス級のヘビ,   Manmosu-kyū no hebi?) regarding its size and appearance.

Design[]

Appearance[]

Manda retains their long, serpentine body, but their head appears to more closely resemble a frilled shark crossed with a pit viper instead of a traditional dragon. They also possess some arthropodal traits, particularly those of centipedes: with dozens of fins on its flank mirroring a centipede's legs and antennae resembling the whiskers from Manda's Atragon design. It has a pair of primitive, stick like forelimbs and freshwater turtle or crocodile-like hind limbs, as well as a fin resembling one of Godzilla's dorsal fins. Just like Godzilla, It also has multiple rows of teeth inside it's mouth as well.

Origins[]

This incarnation of Manda is a species, similar to Rodans' case. They were one of the first Kaijus detected after Rodans' emergence, emerging from within the blood-red sea.

History[]

Godzilla Singular Point[]

Gadabout[]

A group of Manda appear and capsize a fishing boat in the wake of their waves.

Theorist[]

The same group of Manda manage to fully sink the fishing boat while one of them attacks a rescue helicopter with its tail.

Enfatico[]

A swarm of Manda come into contact with a fleet of JSDF ships which manage to kill all but four of them. However, due to the arrival of Godzilla Aquatilis, the Mandas are able to get past the blockade and make their way toward Tokyo.

Omniarch[]

One of the Mandas engages in a brief battle with Godzilla Aquatilis who kills it and eats it, allowing him to transform into Godzilla Amphibia.

Graftage[]

A school of Manda swims toward the Thames River in England as Mei and other passengers on a cruise watch. Meanwhile, a corpse of Manda was washed on a beach in Japan, killed by Godzilla. As the Otaki arrive in the place, they examined the body and while Goro Otaki deduce the creature was killed by Godzilla, the others says that the corpse could have been eaten by giant sea roaches.

Relaunch[]

A Manda briefly attempted to attack Godzilla Ultima, only to backfire as the latter uses his atomic breath on it while an another one was seen swimming near a bridge.

Trivia[]

  • Manda's appearance in the anime was confirmed in official Bandai merchandise.[2]
  • The similarity and possible inspiration of frilled sharks in Manda's design may be due to the fact that frilled sharks are found in Japan.
  • Manda's corpse washing up to shore is reminisces that of Kameobas from Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. both monsters were killed by Godzilla.
