Manto (マント Manto) is a space cloak kaiju from the 1979 illustrated short story, A Space Godzilla, based on the unmade Toho film of the same name.

Appearance[]

Although specific details are not clear, Manto is described as looking like a giant black cloak.

History[]

A Space Godzilla[]

During Rozan (and Lilin)'s trip to some warps, they stopped at one planet known as planet Manto, where Rozan began to doze off. Then all of a sudden, what appeared to be Kunin then talked to her, appearing to be comforting her and then talking to her about what had happened to her during her trip. However, as "Kunin" then asked to hold her, the fake Kunin then forcibly tried to pry Lilin away from Rozan, to which Rozan found out that he wasn't Kunin. The fake Kunin then revealed itself as being a giant black cloak known as "Manto" and then disappeared, vanishing.

Abilities[]

Shapeshifting[]

Manto could change his form and disguise himself as anyone. He took on the form of Kunin to deceive a dozing Rozan.

Disappearing[]

When found out or cover blown, Manto can disappear and fade away.

Trivia[]

  • No concept art of Manto exists, however it is stated within the A Space Godzilla story that he is described as looking like a black cloak.
  • The alien is called Manto because the planet it comes from is also known as Manto, meaning that it could very well be a species.
  • There is an actual planet named 870 Manto, which is a minor planet orbiting the Sun named after after a prophetess in Greek mythology.
  • He is the only antagonist in A Space Godzilla who is not with the Sunerians.
