Overview

The Mecha-King Ghidorah (メカキングギドラ,   Meka Kingu Gidora?) of the Godzilla Island continuity is a daikaiju created by Toho that first appeared in the 1997 series, Godzilla Island. It would later appear as Hyper Mecha-King Ghidorah (ハイパーメカキングギドラ,   Haipā Meka Kingu Gidora?).

Name[]

Mecha-King Ghidorah's name is simply a combination of the word "mecha," which means a robot that can be controlled from inside it, and King Ghidorah (キングギドラ,   Kingu Gidora?), the name of the original kaiju.

Design[]

Appearance[]

Mecha-King Ghidorah's appearance shares a number of resemblances with his Heisei incarnation, albeit in action figure form. As Hyper Mecha-King Ghidorah, his body is more mechanical than the original: while Mecha-King Ghidorah had one robotic head and two organic ones, all three of Hyper Mecha-King Ghidorah are mechanical. In addition, his wings appear to be based more on King Ghidorah's normal wings. His legs also appear to be of the same design of the legs used on the G-Guard MechaGodzilla.

History[]

Godzilla Island[]

After facing yet another defeat at the hands of Godzilla Island's inhabitants, the evil Xilien Zaguresu immediately realized it would take nothing short of a miracle to see her plans for planetary conquest succeed. Luckily for her, that miracle soon arrived in the form of a giant object, the Monster Vending Machine, that gave her the choice of purchasing a monster. Her choice: Mecha-King Ghidorah, a cybernetic monster that she hoped would assist her in her invasion.

She then sent the monster down to Godzilla Island, where it landed in front of Godzilla. However, several moments passed, and Mecha-King Ghidorah did not move. Soon it became apparent to Zaguresu what must have happened: Mecha-King Ghidorah did not have a pilot, and would not work without either a pilot or modifications allowing it to work on its own. Godzilla then ventured forward and simply knocked the cyborg over, and very soon the G-Guard Commander and Torema formulated a plan: use the robot to attack Zaguresu's ship, the Vabaruda, in a full-frontal assault. The Commander soon took off in Mecha-King Ghidorah and Torema followed in her smaller ship, and the two attacked Zaguresu.

For some time, the plan worked, but unfortunately a rogue asteroid knocked both the Commander and Torema back towards Earth. Using a tractor beam, Zaguresu brought Mecha-King Ghidorah back to her ship and soon flew it down personally to attack Godzilla Island. Fortunately, the monsters led an attack of their own, and soon drove the robot back into space.

Mecha-King Ghidorah would be called on again by Zaguresu to attack Godzilla Island, but each time the beast would be forced to flee. Soon, her leader, the Giant Dark Emperor, began to tire of her constant losses and Zaguresu was finally driven from Earth by Torema and was never to be seen again until Story 22 (Final Battle: Mecha-King Ghidorah Saga). Eventually, a more powerful version of Mecha-King Ghidorah called Hyper Mecha-King Ghidorah was purchased from the giant vending machine by Zaguresu and sent to attack Godzilla Island. With the improved Hyper Mecha-King Ghidorah, she once again tried to conquer Godzilla Island and the world. Soon Landes managed to discover the warp gate buried on the island, and the truth behind the invasion was soon discovered. After the destruction of the final Vabaruda, Zaguresu once again attacked Godzilla Island with Hyper Mecha-King Ghidorah, and Landes attacked in the stolen Gyotengo. However, just in time, the G-Guard Commander's daughter Misato managed to power on the warp gate, and both the Gyotengo and Hyper Mecha-King Ghidorah, as well as their evil pilots, were sucked into the portal, never to be seen again.

Abilities[]

  • Hyper Mecha-King Ghidorah can unleash an ice breath from the mouth of his middle head.
  • Like King Ghidorah, Hyper Mecha-King Ghidorah can also fire Gravity Beams from the mouth of all 3 of his heads except that they're red instead of yellow.
  • Hyper Mecha-King Ghidorah can also emit a green tractor beam from the mouth of his middle head.
  • Hyper Mecha-King Ghidorah can also eventually re-attach one of his heads whenever it has either severed or blown out.
