Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is a television series based on the MonsterVerse, also known by the working title of "Monarch"[1], is an American live-action series produced by Legendary Television. It was released to the Apple TV+ streaming service on November 17, 2023.[2][2][3] It is the second entry in the MonsterVerse television series.
The series is executive produced by Chris Black, Matt Fraction, Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell, Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita and executive produced and directed by Matt Shakman.[4]

2023[]
On January 20, 2022, it was announced that AppleTV+ was co-developing with Legendary Television and Toho Company Ltd. for a live-action series set in the MonsterVerse. The synopsis confirmed it would be set after the events of Godzilla and would feature Godzilla and other Titans. Toho officially licensed the series as part of the deal between it and Legendary Pictures' MonsterVerse franchise.[2]
On February 10, 2022, the series' working title, Monarch, was revealed, and production was scheduled to start in spring 2022.[1]
On June 30, 2022, Legendary announced that Anna Sawai, Ren Watabe, Kiersey Clemons, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski were cast in the series. Matt Shakman will executive produce and direct the first two episodes.[4] On July 20, it was announced that Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell have joined the cast.[6]
On August 30, 2022, Legendary Pictures released a teaser image on their Twitter account.[9]
On August 17, 2023, Apple TV+ released first look images.[10]
On September 8, 2023, the teaser for the series was released with a premiere date set for November 17, 2023.[11]
On October 13, 2023, a second trailer was released with a viewing of the first episode at New York Comic-Con.[12]
On November 3, 2023, an inside look of the series and the title sequence was released online by Apple TV+, along with the first three minutes exclusively on IGN.[5][13][14]
On November 15, 2023, Apple TV re-released the first three minutes from the first episode with translated Japanese subtitles on their YouTube account.[15]
On December 3, 2023, Apple TV released a mid-season trailer with scenes from the remaining six episodes, including a fight scene between Godzilla and an Ion Dragon.[16]
2024[]
On January 1, 2024, one of the artists for the design team in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters released concept art for Godzilla in 1954, Frost Vark, Mantleclaw, Brambleboar, and Endoswarmer on his ArtStation account.[17]
On April 11, 2024, Apple TV+ renewed the series for a second season and made a deal with Legendary to develop multiple spinoff series based on the MonsterVerse.[18]
On October 8, 2024, Legendary announced that Amber Midthunder was casted in the series.[8]

- While the episodes were produced in 2.39:1 aspect ratio, the camera reel sequences were produced in 1.78:1 aspect ratio.
- Kurt Russell and Anna Sawai previously worked together in The Fast and the Furious franchise.
