Monster is an English translation of the Japanese term kaiju (怪獣 kaijū?, strange beast). In Japanese culture, "kaiju" has more than one subcategory for certain types of monster, including daikaiju (大怪獣 daikaijū?, large strange beast) refers to monsters of unnatural large sizes and kaijin (怪人 kainjin?, strange person) for human-sized humanoid monsters with distorted traits. In the Godzilla series, "kaiju" is used to identify the multiple giant monsters that appear across multiple media, particularly in place of "daikaiju". It may refer to one of the following:
