Netflix is an American media content platform and streaming service based in Los Gatos, California. It is a member of the Motion Picture Association (MPA) and has original content that is available worldwide. It is the distributor of the Reiwa era franchises, Godzilla anime trilogy and Godzilla Singular Point, and has also co-produced the MonsterVerse animated series, Skull Island.

History[]

Netflix was founded in 1997 by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph as a DVD rental-by-mail service. In 2007, Netflix expanded its business to streaming media and entered the content-production industry in 2013, debuting its first series, House of Cards.

In 2017, Netflix entered a deal with Toho, where it acquired the rights to international distribution of the AniGoji Godzilla trilogy following the film's Japanese release,[1] and released the first film on November 17, 2017.[2]

In October 2020, Netflix ordered another Godzilla anime series, titled Godzilla Singular Point.[3] The anime premiered in 2021 with a weekly release on the service's Japanese edition and had a full international release later in the year.

In January 2021, Netflix announced plans to collaborate with Legendary Television on an upcoming animated series set in the MonsterVerse, titles Skull Island.[4]
