The Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit, also known as the Stealth Bomber, is an American strategic bomber aircraft manufactured by Northrop Grumman. It was featured in the 2016 Toho Godzilla film, Shin Godzilla.

History[]

Shin Godzilla[]

As Godzilla approached the heart of Tokyo, the United States Air Force scrambled several B-2 Spirit bombers of the USAF 509th Bomb wing to attack the creature with Massive Ordnance Penetrators (MOP).

A large portion of the city, including the Prime Minister's residence, was evacuated, and MOPs were dropped onto Godzilla's back. The bomb exploded, blasting off one of Godzilla's dorsal plates and causing him to bleed immensely. Godzilla roared in pain and immediately began giving off an intense purple glow, before spewing black smoke from his mouth, which ignited into a stream of fire, and then condensed into a focused radioactive purple beam. Godzilla fired the beam into the sky above him, shearing one B-2's wing off completely.

Afterwards, Bomber Two stated “PayBack time” which bomber 3 said “Copy PayBack” the remaining bombers circled around and dropped their payloads onto Godzilla. Godzilla retaliated by launching atomic beams from between his dorsal plates, destroying the MOPs midair and obliterating the remaining bombers.

Arsenal[]

Massive Ordnance Penetrator[]

The B-2 Spirits in Shin Godzilla are equipped with Massive Ordnance Penetrators (MOP), extremely powerful bunker-buster bombs with the capacity to penetrate targets to a depth of 200 feet. These bombs were the only conventional weapons shown to be effective against Godzilla, severing one of his dorsal plates and drawing blood.
