After the military failed trapping Zilla in Central Park and New York City was still under Zilla's attack, three nuclear submarines were sent to the ocean to hit the monster with powerful torpedoes. Once Zilla dove into the ocean, the Ohio Class Nuclear-Powered Sub Utah launched a Torpedo at Zilla - which it easily dodged. Following this, the Los Angeles-Class Nuclear Attack Sub Anchorage fired its own torpedo, which Zilla again dodged before swimming towards the Anchorage and damaging its hull with his scutes; the two torpedoes following him destroying the sub. This left only the two Ohio Class Nuclear-Powered Submarines to continue battle. While Zilla tried to flee by burrowing away, both the Utah and the Indiana fired a torpedo each. Locked on to Zilla, both torpedoes hit the monster. Zilla roared as it sank into the ocean, leading the military to declare it dead; an assumption that proved wrong.
When an American Ohio Class Nuclear Sub mysteriously disappeared in the waters off Guam, the JSDF deployed the research submersible Satsuma to find its wreckage. The Satsuma eventually found the remains of the sub on the sea floor, with what appeared to be huge claw marks in its hull. Suddenly, something large moved past the Satsuma, causing its sister craft to smash into a nearby rock and explode. As the water settled, the Satsuma operator witnessed the huge glowing dorsal plates of a gigantic creature move behind several rocks.
