1st Lieutenant Ortiz was a pilot serving as part of Monarch during the events of Rodan's rise from his volcanic slumber in the 2019 film Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
Assigned to escort the USS Argo as part of Gold Squadron, Ortiz was ordered by Colonel Diane Foster to provide cover as the larger vessel lured an irritated Rodan toward King Ghidorah. During this maneuver, Ortiz's aircraft (a Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II) was heavily damaged by the flying monster and he was forced to eject. Unfortunately, the course of his ejector seat arced him straight into Rodan's mouth, and the creature swallowed the man without a second thought, killing him instantly. During that brief engagement with Rodan, the entirety of Gold Squadron was annihilated. [1]
