Kentaro practices presenting his art show to buyers. He struggles to find the words to describe it. Emiko arrives and admires what his art is about. He doesn't take her praises well. His father is supposed to come to the show that night. He goes outside to take a photo of his poster as May walks in front of it. She mistakes him for taking a picture of her. After some banter, she asks him to delete the picture because she's in it. They decide to skip the start of the show to get expensive whiskey.

May is angry that her legs and toes are nearly hypothermic. Lee can't risk starting a fire with the Titan out there. Kentaro saw a structure from the plane and wants May to agree that she saw it too. She insists she didn't and he thinks she's siding with them out of anger. She snaps back this is about her freezing to death, not him. He just wants to save her life.

Kentaro takes May to a speakeasy hidden in a rundown building. Kentaro knows the owner, Sota, and even has a bottle named after him. He designed the lighting in the building so Sota lets him pretend he's expensive. They discuss his art, his acts, and the facade he puts up. They visit his art studio which is full of drastically different art than what's in his show. They kiss by the desk.

Verdugo communicates with Dr. Barnes who has detected significant radiation that is supposed to only exist in black holes. The equipment that picked up the radiation is an antique. The pulsar was in Alaska. The last time anyone saw readings like this was before the last emergency event. From Janjira and Yucca Flat, before G-Day.

May holds the same flashlight in bed with Kentaro. She doesn't want him to be ashamed of taking credit for his art. He asks about her life as he doesn't know anything about her. She reiterates that she does computer shit. She's from Tacoma, but it sucks, so she came to Japan. As they get dressed, Kentaro wants to see her again so she gives him her flip phone. The phone rings as he puts his number on but she ignores it. After he leaves, she answers the call. She tells the person on the other line that she's traveling for work. She wants them to stop calling her. She will call when she's back. She lays on the bed, using the flashlight to create shapes.

May and Cate are inside Hiroshi's tent. May's legs are starting to warm up, but she's still freezing. If she doesn't make it, May wants Cate to call her sister Lyra. Lee returns to the tent with some food he found near Du-Ho. Lee is reluctant to burn any of Hiroshi's paper for kindling. Cate wants to let it burn if it'll save May. The ground ripples again as the Frost Vark shatters the ground. It stops moving and then erupts seconds later. The creature absorbs the fire in the air and then disappears. May can't run from it anymore. Lee doesn't think she'll have to.

Verdugo tells the Monarch scientists about the noteworthy readings found by Outpost 47. It mirrors the gamma rays found before the San Francisco event. Tim, who is in Japan with Michelle Duvall, shouts out to be heard. He doesn't want to dismiss Bill Randa's files. Lee Shaw knows something they don't and that's why Lee wants the files. Tim gives a speech about preventing the next Titans through being open-minded.

Lee knows how the Vark is after the fires they're making. He wants to dangle the biggest, hottest thing in front of the creature and light it up. While the Titan absorbs the heat, they hightail it to the coast. May looks at Du-Ho's body and Cate tries to comfort her with some hope of making it. She knows Cate will have to ditch her eventually. She wants Cate to ditch Lee too so one of them can make it out alive.
Kentaro begins hearing voices in the tundra. Hiroshi walks through the snow and passes his son. Kentaro begs his father to stay, but he disappears in the fog. He finds a trail of pencil shavings in the snow and follows it. He eventually arrives outside his art show. The image fades from the art show to an oil rigging plant. He goes inside where he hallucinates the art show. He turns around to see Hiroshi, whom he tells about Kimi dropping him despite selling a few paintings. He's upset as the art show was the last time Kentaro ever saw his father. Once back in the rig, Kentaro finds a static communications system. Underneath it are pencil shavings.
Lee prepares the funeral pyre using Du-Ho's corpse. He gives a eulogy as he dumps the material. The Frost Vark erupts and knocks Lee over. He tells the girls to run while he struggles to find a way to light the pyre. Cate tries to get the attention of an aircraft, while May uses her bag to shield herself from the Vark's attack. The girls flee to the chopper. Lee watches the Frost Vark consume the fire. Kentaro appears at the door to usher everyone in. They barely escape the Frost Vark's attack. As they fly away, Lee notices light streaming out of a giant crater in the ground.
In the morning, Kentaro explains how the signal he found was so weak that emergency services barely heard him. Hiroshi was there before him. Their father is alive. May thanks Cate for her help, and they hold hands. Lee opens Randa's bag to find May's frozen computer inside. They land at a Monarch outpost where Tim greets Shaw.
