The ShodaiManda clearly draws inspiration from the Chinese dragon, as it has a scaly puppet with hair all through its back, two whiskers, four horns on its head, a fairly long snout, reptilian pupils, four short legs with small claws, and a long serpent-like body. The suit also has fangs and a reptile-like underbody.
- The Ultra Q monster, Kai Dragon, was created (and loosely disguised) from reusing the ShodaiManda prop.
- A smaller ShodaiManda was used for scenes of it swimming rapidly and for the scene of it getting frozen.
- Although this Manda puppet was only used in one Toho film, it is the only one to be used in more than one production, counting its use as Kai Dragon.
