The Return of Godzilla

When Godzilla surfaced in Tokyo Bay, he created a wave which caused the Balashevo to capsize and run aground, damaging systems and initiating the launch sequence. Although Colonel Kashirin tried to stop the missile from being launched, he was killed by a small explosion before he could do so. In response, the Americans sent out a nuclear missile of their own. Time passed until the two rockets collided, destroying both missiles in the atmosphere over Tokyo. Although the nuclear missile threat was neutralized, radiation was released into the atmosphere, causing storms which revived the fallen Godzilla.

Weapons

The Soviet Nuclear Attack Satellite was capable of firing nuclear missiles, and was built by the Soviet Union to attack the United States of America during the height of the Cold War.

Trivia

  • In the Japanese release of the film, it is made clear that the missile was released accidentally due to a huge wave hitting the Balashevo. However, in the American release, the footage is altered to make it seem that the Soviet Union deliberately fired upon Tokyo, most likely so that the Soviets would be seen as villains and the Americans as heroes.
