Overview

Suko is a juvenile primate Titan in the MonsterVerse created by Legendary Pictures who was introduced in the 2024 film, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

Name[]

The creature's name was revealed to be "Suko" on the boxing of a toy in Playmate's Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire toy line. The name is based on the Japanese word (須子,   Suko?), which means "essential child" when translated to English.

In the film's novelization, "Suko" is an English translation of his given name in the Great Apes' native language, the actual name being the sounds Suko uses to communicate his name to Kong.

Appearance[]

Suko is a juvenile primate with a general appearance similar to that of Kong. He has gray skin, green eyes, two short legs, two lengthy arms, and a scar over his right eye extending down his right cheek. The coloration of his fur is orangish-brown, similar to that of the Skar King.

Roar[]

Suko's roar is similar to Kong's albeit much higher in pitch. He also utilizes chimpanzee-like grunts and hoots.

Personality[]

Raised in the harsh ways of the Skar King's ape tribe, Suko possesses a cunning and opportunistic personality, as demonstrated by his initial attempt to deceive Kong by appearing harmless and then biting his hand when the opportunity arose during the ambush. Although easily defeated by Kong in their fight, Suko's intelligence shines through as he subtly directs Kong's attention to the fleeing ape, signaling that he was not involved in the attack.

Despite his initial reluctance, Suko gradually forms a bond with Kong, aided by Kong's acts of goodwill and attempts at friendship. Suko's survival instincts drive him to accept the food Kong offers, leading to a growing trust between them. Over time, Suko becomes fiercely loyal to Kong, warning him against interfering and protecting him from potential threats.

When Suko witnesses Kong in trouble, his loyalty is put into action, as he employs his resourcefulness to support Kong and have his back against their enemies. Suko's character evolves from a deceptive opportunist to a trusted ally, willing to go to great lengths to ensure Kong's safety and well-being.

History[]

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire[]

When Kong is exploring an uncharted region of the Hollow Earth, he comes across a huge ape-like shadow coming towards him. He prepares for a fight, until the shadow reveals itself as Suko. Kong, in an attempt to befriend Suko, has his finger bitten and he runs away, luring him into an ambush created by One-Eye and two larger apes. Suko watches Kong dispatch the other three apes with relative ease. He jumps on Kong's face but is overpowered in a matter of seconds and used as a weapon against the other apes. As the battle ends, Suko lurks in a nearby tree, but is noticed by Kong who throws him to the ground and roars authoritatively at the younger ape. Forced by Kong, Suko reluctantly takes him to the Skar King's stronghold.

During their journey, Suko and Kong pass by flocks of Warbats and Hellhawks before reaching a large lake. Suko quickly notices a Drownviper and comes up with a plan to subject Kong to it. He starts enjoying the lake surreptitiously and Kong also enters. However, the Drownviper attacks Kong and Suko escapes. Thinking he had successfully executed his plan, Suko tries to run away when he trips over Kong's battle axe that was thrown towards him. Suko notices that even a Drownviper is no match for Kong and finally realizes that it is useless to try to deceive him. He and Kong soon sit down on a plain at dusk and begin to feast, strengthening their bond.

Suko and Kong continue their journey to the Skar King's stronghold, crossing a huge skeleton of a long-deceased Titan before arriving at their destination. Suko then follows Kong past the apes and is called by an elderly ape named Gnarled Finger who is Suko's friend. Suko watches with concern and fear as Kong knocks out another great ape with one punch and attracts everyone's attention. Hearing the Skar King's roar, Suko looks at Kong with fear. He watches the Skar King analyzing Kong and when he notices the metallic tooth, he starts laughing with the other apes out of fear. But noticing that Suko was not laughing enthusiastically and realizing that he was the one who brought the stranger, the Skar King tries to attack him but is stopped by Gnarled Finger. The Skar King decides to kill the elderly ape by kicking him into a lava pit, and Suko can only watch with cries of anguish.

Suko observes the fight between Kong and the Skar King, seeing that Kong is at an immense disadvantage due to the Skar King's agility and speed, until the moment when Kong gains the advantage. Upon seeing the Skar King calls Shimo, Suko along with other enslaved apes are scared and watches as Kong has his arm frozen by Shimo's frost bite blast. Suko then points a way out for Kong to escape and saves him from the Skar King's subordinates by activating a trap that they did not fall into. Suko accompanies the wounded Kong to the Iwi city of Malenka before heading off to find some food. When Suko sees the Skar King leading his army to Malenka, the young ape warns Kong and stays to protect the portals above Malenka while Kong brings Godzilla to the Hollow Earth. During the ensuing battle, Suko aids Godzilla, Kong, and Mothra by fighting off the Skar King's subordinates and killing One-Eye. After Godzilla and Kong pursued the Skar King and Shimo to Rio de Janeiro, Suko retrieves Kong's axe and brings it with him.

Godzilla and Kong are battling the Skar King and Shimo in Rio de Janeiro when Suko arrives with Kong's axe and uses it to destroy the crystal that the Skar King uses to control Shimo. The enraged Skar King attempts to kill Suko for his betrayal, but Kong, Godzilla, and the liberated Shimo work together in killing the Skar King. Suko then watch with awe as Godzilla uses his atomic breath to disperse Shimo's blizzard. Following the battle, Suko returns to the Skar King's former stronghold alongside Kong and Shimo to liberate the enslaved apes.

Abilities[]

Carnivorous diet[]

Like Kong, Suko is capable of eating the flesh of other creatures, such as the meat of a Drownviper, for sustenance.

Durability[]

Suko exemplified remarkable durability by enduring a series of relentless attacks from Kong, who utilized Suko as a weapon to be swung at other apes with tremendous force, and even being flung off. Nonetheless, Suko displayed unwavering determination, withstanding each blow and demonstrating the ability to rise again, undeterred by the punishment inflicted upon him.

Intelligence[]

Suko's exceptional intelligence shines through in his ability to capitalize on his prior encounter with Kong and devise a plan to manipulate him. His strategic thinking is remarkable, as he successfully leads Kong towards his own home while operating alone. Recognizing an opportunity, Suko meticulously orchestrates a scheme to trick Kong into drinking water from a lake, intending to subject him to a Drownviper and secure his own escape. Not only does Suko execute this plan, but he also demonstrates quick thinking and resourcefulness by saving Kong from a trap that Kong had set up before their encounter. Suko's intelligence is evident in his ability to outmaneuver and outwit Kong, displaying a high level of cunning, adaptability, and problem-solving skills.

Speed and agility[]

Despite his smaller size, Suko can run as fast as Kong.

Strength and combat[]

Despite his young age, Suko displays a remarkable degree of primal strength, effortlessly launching boulders with precision using his powerful arms. While his attempt to fight against the fully grown and muscular Kong proved futile and resulted in a quick defeat, Suko's strength is evident as he delivers a forceful kick that successfully propels an evil fully grown adult ape off a ledge, despite the significant difference in body build compared to Kong's muscular physique.
