The Tanystalker was designed by Shayor Sheikh as florafauna-style monster submission for the "Isle of the Damned" art contest hosted by Evil Genius games in promotion for the game's upcoming expansion set. Winners had the chance to have their monster featured as an official creature and NPC, as well as a mail-order plush version.[2] The Takystalker, along with the Slither Flower, was announced as the winning submission on July 31, 2023. Plush versions of the creatures were made for the winners.[3]

Origins[]
The Tanystalker stands 30 feet tall from foot to head, and 70 feet long from head to tail. Its lizard-like body, with longer hind legs and shorter front limbs, allows the Tanystalker to alternate between slinking quadrupedal ambulation and swift bipedal sprinting. Razor-sharp scales, which can cut skin when touched against the grain, cover its sides and legs, whereas the scales along the Tanystalker’s neck, body, and tail (top side), are leaf-like and photosynthetic. When the Tanystalker submerges in water, these scales open to mimic water lily pads.
While perfectly capable of being an active hunter, the Tanystalker is a highly skilled ambush predator, preferring to conserve energy and draw prey in for capture by additional passive means. It uses the large lily flower at the tip of its tail to ensnare other prey above the water while the rest of its body rests below the surface.
As a massive creature, the Tanystalker requires a great deal of energy to stay active. It prefers to remain motionless most of the time, either submerged in the water or on land in dense undergrowth where it can stay relatively hidden for extended periods of time until a larger creature happens by or is attracted by the sweet-smelling tail. For these meatier morsels, the Tanystalker then bursts from hiding and shreds them into smaller, chewable bits
