  • Hello users of Kaijupedia. I have an extremely important announcement to make.

We are becoming independent from Wikia and have launched our own site.

    Visit it here: http://wikizilla.org

    WIKIZILLA.org

    IMPORTANT CLARIFICATIONS:

    • ALL OF THE CONTENT THAT IS GONE FROM HERE IS ON THE NEW SITE. All the images, pages, etc.

    • The new site will be exactly like the Wikizilla before we turned into Kaijupedia, except much better.
    • This site (Kaijupedia) is to remain dormant, or as close to it as possible. The rename to Kaijupedia, the new skin, etc. ... it was all a ruse to make this site worse right off the bat and the new one automatically superior.
    • Reasons for why this is happening are plentiful and complex, and will be posted in detail at a later time. In short, all of the admins plus many of the biggest contributors to this site agree this was the best move to do for this site.

As you can see, Wikizilla.org (or just Wikizilla) has already a pretty decently-sized community to its secretive pre-release stage, and it's already starting to climb up search engine results. The new site will eventually completely cover this one.

If you have questions please leave them below, at least until I am able to reply to them.

Please create an account and join the new site. Hopefully this serves as at least a small explanation for what's been going on here. Thank you!

    • Finally, the announcement has come. I'll admit, I was joining the ruse. I made sure to keep the new site a secret, but I don't have to now! I shall sing it from the heavens, as this new site is the definitive Wikizilla now!

So, why don't you come and join the fun!

Okay then. Enjoy the soon to become wasteland of emptiness.

    • We didn't just mindlessly destroy this wiki. We took everything on Wikizilla and just moved the entire wiki to a new home. Wikizilla is still alive and well, even better than it was before. The reason we made all these harmful changes to the old site were so the new Wikizilla would be instantly superior to the old wiki.

        Loading editor
    • Uh, all of the stuff that used to be there is on the new site. It's really the same site as this, except not on Wikia, and better.

But if you choose not to join that's on you, just know this site will be dead.

It's more aesthetically pleasing and is no longer bound by Wikia's rules and restrictions, allowing us to incorporate features and designs not possible before, and preventing us from having to answer to Wikia in the event of an issue.

      such as?

I still don't see why this required erasing the old wiki.

        Loading editor
    • Because if we simply launched the new Wikizilla and left this one as is, there would be much less of an incentive for people to stop visiting the old Wikizilla and start consulting the new one. This is what happened when Uncyclopedia split from Wikia, resulting in two Uncyclopedias. We want Wikizilla to remain the definitive Godzilla Wiki, so we needed to make it immediately superior to the old site.

    • Another question I have is what will happen to this wiki later?

        Loading editor
    • Wikia will inevitably demote and/or ban the admins and raise a puppet government to run the wiki. Eventually, with its community gone and its pages reduced, it will become inactive and everyone will flock to the new Wikizilla instead. The same thing happened to the Transformers Wiki.

        Loading editor
    • I see.

    • The transformers wiki got destroyed too? ;-;

    • A few years ago the Transformers Wiki became independent from Wikia, and the old TF Wiki on Wikia is now a mess.

Here's the current Transformers Wiki: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Main_Page

And here's the old one: http://transformers.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

This is exactly what we've been doing.

It was something that one man couldnt do. it required other experts on the subject. it required more people in general. Over time the original few users turned into more and more and more, gaining and losing some of the best people. Sure, there was all the trouble of building up what should have been an easy thing into something not one single man can do. We aqquired great writers, fact finders, and reporters. We found people willing to help. People who could, and did change this site. It gave it personallity. It gave it a taste. Our topics ranged from Godzilla, to Gamera, to all Toho works. This wiki was around 11 years. that is an inasane amount of time. thats how much time it takes to go from a new born to a sixth grader. the amount of knoledge found in 11 years is just crazy. but this site wasnt run by 6th graders. It was run by and created by adults and teens who spent their lives enjoying these franchises. the amount of knoledge in that span of time, is truely something to wonder about. and whats amazing about this site, is that no matter what was going on, a new job, work, family issues, school, people still came here to learn, build and make everyone a better person. it doesnt MATTER what your username is. It doesnt MATTER if your new to the subject. it doesnt MATTER if you are new to the site. you could fit in, and build. and thats why, I am spending my last moments before school today, at the foot steps of the apocalypse, and the stair case to heaven.

    • I'm sad to see this happen. This is a good wiki, and I'm sorry to see it split.

But, we respect your right to fork. It's part of why we chose the CC-by-SA license in the first place.

What we do not respect, is the damage you have done to a wiki you have chosen to leave. You have the right to fork, you do not have the right to "kill this wiki" or "firebomb" it on your way out.

I see that The King of the Monsters openly admits that the changes were to benefit the new site, vandalizing this wiki to try to stop people who choose to stay here from having an intact site to use. This is not acceptable.

So where do we go from here?

My main message is that this wiki will remain here and open for anyone who chooses to stay. Yes, there will probably need to be new admins, but they will not be a "puppet government", they will just be people who have decided to stay on Wikia and continue to build and grow the wiki they love.

The first thing that's needed is to prevent more damage. Because of that, I am going to remove admin rights from the current admins. If any of you are genuinely intending to stay on this wiki, please let me know and we can talk about replacing rights.

The next thing is to fix the damage that's already been done. I will start work on that today. I hope to get things back in place quickly so that those who want to stay have their wiki back!

There is no inevitable decline here. We have had many wikis that have recovered after a split, Fallout and GTA are the first that come to mind. It is possible to continue and grow this wiki, despite the new competition. I will do all I can to help that happen, and I'm looking forward to working with those of you who decide to stay at Wikia.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    • Damage? Wikizilla was flooded about moths/years with articles about monsters that have little to nothing to do with Godzilla. Therefore Wikizilla was renamed to "Kaijupedia" and thus turned the godzilla-specialized wiki into a general wiki about monsters. There was a cleaning and all articles or sections that went into too much detail have been deleted and the content first dropped dramatically, which is about to change, because the wiki now generally attends giant monsters. These sections or articles can be found in the new Wikizilla, provided they have enough to do with Godzilla. Everything went well and lawful in my opinion, although I have hardly noticed what happened here.

Nobody wants to stay here though. Quite a lot of stuff was done to this site that made some (if not a lot of) people leave and I doubt anyone else will want to stay after seeing they have a better fancy new site to enjoy. Also, GTA and Fallout are way more popular and therefore had a better chance to survive the split whereas Godzilla, while still pretty popular, is nowhere near the same level as those two.

    • It would seem that what Wikia considers damage, and what the members of the wiki itself do, are very different. Not to mention that some admins - such as myself - have had very little to do with the day-to-day activities of the wiki and yet everyone gets "punished". If Wikia's idea of community is to let the community dictate what is and is not acceptable, then calling everything they've cleaned up to move to a more appropriate location - content they themselves contributed - goes against that very sentiment. There's a difference between vandalizing a wiki to stop people from having an intact site to use (edits which can be reverted by the new staff if need be) and cleaning out content.

Exactly. It's like everything is the fault of everyone associated with the wiki and Wikia does not want to let them have control over their content. Just because some admins weren't a part of this does not mean we necessarily agree with it or the means by which it happens, but this goes against the very sentiments of Wikia being about communities. Wikia is trying hard to punish this wiki for forking rather than working with anyone wanting to stay with it to improve it. That's not right.

The other administrators and I have openly admitted to tearing down this site, and we anticipated being demoted from the moment we decided to split from Wikia. As long as Wikia accepts the fact that we have split from them, then I can accept whatever punishment they give me here. If you don't intend to stick around here, just come to the new Wikizilla.

    • The only reason I was an admin and a bureaucrat was to provide support in cases of admin disputes as a representative of Tokupedia. Although I had the powers, I made the decision not to use them unless the local staff requested my intervention - and I am willing to offer the same to the new staff as well. I see no reason why the two cannot exist as separate entities affiliated with each other, one for Godzilla in its new home and this one for everything else, located here.

Does Wikia own the content on its Wikis just curious. Because if not, there's a bit of a problem

UPDATE: As it happens, Wikis have been llowed in the past to move to their own sites and servers.

From Wikipedia: In June 2008, Wikia adopted a new skinMonaco, intending to implement it as the default on almost all hosted wikis.[50] Many wiki users felt the choice of skin default should remain their own. The switch went ahead, but some wikis retained Monobook as their default. In September 2008, the Transformers Wiki moved content to their own server, citing the format-altering ads and mandatory changes as reasons for their departure.[51][52] WikiFur moved likewise in August 2009;[53]the Nethack wiki moved in November 2010,[54] and the Doom wiki in September 2011.[55]

The same thing is happening here. Wikis are toatally allowed to move to their own sites, and those sites, and therefore it is the decision of the owners of the new site on what may or may not be done with the content of the site. In this case, I can't imagine the owners of wikipedia.org would be happy with Wikia undeleting the articles, and it seems to me like it's totally within their right to prevent you from doing that.

In all honesty, I'm annoyed at having my rights removed without my opinion being brought into play first. This site is practically the thing that got me into the Kaiju community, and I treasure my time as an Admin here. Even if it means I'm watching over something that's half the site it used to be, then it means I'm still performing my duties and giving good service to Wikia. I'll make sure this place remains active and free of vandalism, just as I will be on the new location.

That's why I said I respect your right to fork. Or to put it another way, you have the right to copy the content and start a new wiki elsewhere.

Wikia (or Wikicities as it was then) deliberately chose to use a free license that allows anyone to copy the content - as long as they attribute the source and keep the license the same. That includes people who want to go somewhere other than Wikia.

What is doesn't mean is that you can dictate what happens to the content when you leave. Wikia can continue to use the content under the same license. And that includes the deleted content.

    • I'm wondering whether we ought to have another thread to discuss admin rights and who intends to go, stay, or edit both wikis.

The problem with the last is always a matter of conflict of interest. Is it possible to be on two wikis, with largely the same scope and content, and be dedicated to making both the best Godzilla wiki ever? As a wise man once said: "there can be only one".

I'd also ask whether you would be maintaining the wiki with it's original purpose intact? Or would you try to make it into something different so that it didn't compete with the other wiki? That's not fair to the remaining and future users. They shouldn't have their wiki diminished for the benefit of the other version.

KoopaGalaxain: I'm sorry for the sudden removal of rights, my aim was to reduce the risk of further damage to the wiki. I did the same to all because it seemed fairer to do the same to all until we could talk about it, rather than picking out those I thought might cause more damage

    • Well, I would like to branch my time on the websites as much as possible. So first of all, if im going to  stay here some bit and edit, this new color and backround needs to go burn in the pits of Shingoji's stomache.

i hate it, and the site would be far better off by making the green, back into red on everything.

Second of all, im decently happy that this site is coming back, but unhappy at most. Sannse, your comment was poorly timed as every non admin user was just getting to come to the realization that this wiki is dead. Although some users have already migrated to the new site, its still a bad time to talk about this. It just feels wrong in to many ways.

third, this ones a complaint on the sites side, not wikias. I do think deleting everything, vandalizing the site, and renaming it was a poor, poor option. It wasnt the best move. honestly, Sannse wouldnt be wrapped up in our mess if we didnt destroy our own site, what we created, what we spent hours, most peoples time a decade, building and creating. it surely was a sad, and poor choice. after so many years of planning, im sure you guys would have realized this, i mean honestly, there must have been sometime after you all settled on it you didnt think this was right.

fourth, for those of you who havent gotten it yet, Sannse is mostly fighting on our side. As Titano has said many times, wikia is not afraid to set up puppet governments. AND they are not afraid to completely change a wiki from what it was. Sannse is being different. She's trying to help us more then some of you think. shes REVERTING the changes made. Where as any other wiki employee would just mkae new pages full of information straight from wikipedias main site. Although most of the reasoning for Sannse actions is partial bias, considering she has said she was monitering this site for a while, and even likes how we used to run things here, thats still a healthy asset on our cause, as we arent dealing with someone who was hired yesterday who smokes weed in the break room.

and lastly, I do think that the two wikis could work in unison. it wouldnt take much effort. this one could be for users who have wiki accounts and dont want to make a new accoutn just to be on the  (lets be honest here) , better, and more expensive site. and then the new one could be for, well, us, the original community, and maybe the others that want to join it. And well, there is special perks for being on the different wikis. This one makes writing blogs and making threads easy, (i mastered these in a few days) while on the new site........ uh...... it doesnt work to well as of this comment. But still, I think it would be more of a , uh, "Balanced" expierience jumping from both wikis. one would be filled with more new people, while the other is old friends. plus, lets hope to god a certain sockpupppet doesnt see this thread.

I pulled this from the history of the background file, and a previous version of the color scheme. I'm very happy for it to be another version though, as long as it isn't one that is designed to drive people away!

Perhaps we can discuss this on another thread?

      SuperNerd295 wrote:

That was really the point. I needed to step in so that people knew this site isn't dead, and that everyone can make a choice where to edit.

I've seen cases before of Wikia staff simply reverting everything, as they're doing here. It doesn't surprise me at all. There's a whole laundry list of similar cases listed at the Anti Wikia Alliance website. They've been doing this for at least eight years. Wikia do not delete old wikis when you fork. Ever. You should've known that.

You're trying to FORCE the fans to use YOUR wiki. IF the new one is actually that much better why would people stay here when given the choice? But.. instead of letting a natural migration happen, you decided to force the issue in the worst way possible.

people would stay here due to nostalgia, the amount of memories they have. Its different then the quality. It's due to nostalgia. Everyone was shocked upon first hearing this. EVERYONE. And because some of the features on the new site dont work, like blogs and threads. It doesnt mean people will not visit the site, people will. Its just because of how much time everyone has spent here, that makes most of us turn around and look the other way. infact, some of my friends on this site are already on the new one and are unaware that this is happening. Although yes, destroying the site and leaving is a very forced move. It does mean that the only other site is THE only site, and that to find our content people need to go there. Despite this, I will try my best to help the clean up, as I have no other things to do at the moment.

First off. I was never an admin here. I was once but I did nothing here.

Second off. If anything the person who created and worked the hardest and put their ENTIRE life and soul into this site and not just hang out on it kinda do have a right to decide the wikis future. Im not one of those people of course.

Here Is the thing though. Why not make WIkizilla KAIJUPEDIA? Its gonna be the same place just with a differant name. You can also focus more on other things that are like Godzilla (there is simply more then just Godzilla,King kong, Or gamera).

That is a problem some users have been having. If you keep reloading the page, the Captcha should eventually work. That's what other users have done to sign up.

Probably they just want more power in this old Wikizilla and only didn't babbled everything out to Wikia to have Titanollante and the others to end their plans, so Wikia could take their rights and give reasons for it. After that, they will be the only few to rule about old wikizilla

Nobody here is trying to foil their plans. And no one wants to rule over this place. And, although bias, Nostalgia is a good explanation for people staying here. Nostalgia is a feeling of being part of something you once loved. Yes, its bias. But is it why most users are staying? Yes. And you are obviously oblivious to everything happening. you werent even here when people where informed about this via chat. People are staying here becasue they have the choice too. Not because Wikia is making the site back to normal. Infact, if we didnt make this thread, I want to bet you that in about a year from now, someone would already be working on bringing this place back. Everyone has a choice. Some peoples choice is to move on. some is to stay back. Others, like myself, are going to go double. The internet is pretty much a free place. Learn that and keep it well.

Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit. Nostalgia? The wiki you buildt up isn't getting destroyed or replaced by something completely different, it's just moving, seen exactly. There, where the copies of the articles are, there you can have your nostalgia, too, in a better place. If you stay HERE because of nostaglia, you are staying here because this is Wikia.

You can bring back all articles, comments to old wikizilla, but then we shouldn't do anything on old Wikizilla. There will then be more nostalgia when we come back and see the old, untouched, unevolved articles in the stadium we left them there. Buuuutt this is Wikia, maybe a new design will be forced on the wikia-wikis again, more will be dumbed down, whatever, and 103455 new things will be forced on the wiki and there will be 1090 more ads for visitors and a lot of new, super-useful features the new Wikizilla won't give you.

I would like you defining your nostalgia better. You perceive it more important than it actually is, in relation to the negative points, which are clearly overweighting. Btw, the missing thread / forum functions are going to be added in new wikizilla.

And I'm informed enough about the situation and I got informed back then about the plan via chat, too.

No Deathrock9, Wikizilla has not moved, you, Titanollante and others who follow just chose to rename, vandalize and leave this place for the new site, and that was why every admin, whether active or inactive, got demoted as a result of it. Wikia staff member Sannse choosing to repromote anyone who is willing to stay gave me the opportunity to completely revitalize not this site for a new generation of users who chose to come here and edit, and it's all because Sannse said that users have a choice of whether to edit here or wikizilla.org, which is fine, users are allowed to have a choice, they have a right to choose which site they want to edit, it's their choice.

Actually, yes, Wikizilla has moved. I apologise if you're not smart enough to understand that but that is where Wikizilla is now. That is Wikizilla. This is nothing but a shell of something that used to be great. You can revert all the edits and stuff if you want, yeah sure, do that, but this isn't Wikizilla.

You can stay on this inferior site then. Enjoy spending your time in a wasteland if slowly-restored pages, wikia restrictions and awful, annoying ads everywhere. Too bad you decided not to move to the actual Wikizilla. Have fun with Kaijupedia.

Funny how you put 'better' in quotations even though it's true. As I said, have fun spending your time in this wasteland. You're only one user as opposed to many more anyhow, so it's not like you are actually significant or anything.

You choose to stay cause some guys completely unrelated to you decided to make Wikizilla rightfully independent by moving it to a new home of it's own free of stupid intrusive adverts and wikia's restrictions. It was necessary to change this wikia from Wikizilla to Kaijupedia. Maybe it's not best that some things were deleted but no, there can't be two Wikizilla's. There can only be one and it's located over at wikizilla.org.

You and the others chose to do this to be free of Wikia's restrictions? What a weak reason to commit this act.

    • Yeah, I've heard that too many times, and seen no explanation. WHAT restrictions?

Sannse might be able to look up how long I've been using Wikia, but I don't remember, nor do I remember how many wikis I've contributed to. Yet, in that time, I've never seen a particularly compelling reason to want to leave wikia.

    • I can safely say that I'm strongly disappointed by everyone's behaviour here.

GI, your sudden and effectively cruel decision to abandon all the hard work you've done for the other members of staff here only to support something you personally supported moving away from (don't even deny it) has left me and the other admins fearing for the future of both sites. I for one suffered a serious panic attack yesterday, and it took me several hours to calm myself down.

We moved away from this site for a good reason, even if the way the people who masterminded this plan went about it in an immature and frankly idiotic manner. Now, the reason why I chose to stay was to support the recovery of this website, as I disapprove of the firebombing that took place.

Also, to everyone arguing over childish things, put aside your differences and step well away. This place is no place for such arguments.

I had no part in what the other admins did. But that does not mean I can't be disappointed at the behaviour of everyone involved, from the people who decided to destroy this site, to the people who have chosen to stay and spread vindictive and false information about those who left.

All of you have engaged in disappointing behaviour over these past few days.

I thought Wikizilla's community knew better than this.

So buck up your attitude, and maybe, just maybe we might be able to negotiate in a way that facilitates consensus, not mindless rage and hatred.

As I said I can't be bothered with this anymore but HYPERGODZILLA is correct.

It wasn't the best decision to firedomb this place and turn it into a dumb but what's done is done. Wikizilla has moved and this is Kaijupedia. Being Kaijupedia, it's open to including far more content that can attract more people. Gonna stop following notifications for this thread now.

Since there are no good reasons to stay, we have at least to try to persuade the resistans, because it looks like that they aren't very clear about the points/weight of points of staying/leaving. Wise and rational people will come.

The list is long, but if you ask Titan about the benefits yourself, you may get something more comprehensive.
