Greatings infidels! No, don't worry, just kidding! My name is...no wait, is that a good idea? Alright, I think I will play it safe. Just call me Danzilla! I am an administrator here as Wiki-Zilla. I have been a kaiju eiga fan for most of my life now and may be THE...yes THE biggest Godzilla fan this side of Planet X! (Alright, that was reeeeeaaallly bad, sorry!) Don't worry, I don't actually think that. Anyway, I am currently a freshman in ("blank") College in the city of ("bla-bla-bla") in the state of ("one-of-fifty-possible-choices"). (If the lack of specifics is beginning to tick you off, then, to quote (Gearge Takei's dubbed version of) Tsukioka from Godzilla Raids Again, I say to you "Ah, banana oil!") But I digress. I was first introduced to the King of the Monsters back in 1999, about one year after Tristar unleashed GINO apon the world. The release of the remake got me asking..."Who is this Godzilla bloke?", but as I was only 6 years old at the time, PG-13 movies were not on my viewing menu. (In fact, the Tristar Godzilla was my first PG-13 film! Ah, the memories of childhood...) However, while the newest incarnation of the Monster King was a little to much for me at the time (well, at least according to my parents), my mother suggested that I partake of one of Godzilla's earlier adventures. Now, before I move on, let me clarify one thing really quick: my mother is NOT a Godzilla fan. In fact, I am the only Godzilla fan in my family. Heck, I am the only Godzilla fan that I know within driving distance (talk about lonely)! Anyway, it was a great day when my mother brought me to our local library to pick out my first G-flick. My pick: Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964), labeled on the slip cover as Godzilla vs The Thing! I brought that movie home, watched it, and was completely blown away! Later trips to the library resulted my viewings of Godzilla 2000, Invasion of the Astro Monster (A.K.A. Godzilla vs Monster Zero), the original Godzilla (A.K.A. Godzilla King of the Monsters!), and even the American remake. I later located a store (that has, sadly, now closed, of course...) that sold the films on VHS and I quickly collected three of the Heisei films, a few Showa films, Godzilla 2000, and the first two Rebirth of Mothra films. Several years later, something new entered my life, something that I had only heard tell of before, something new and all powerful, in the form of one, two syllable, four-letter word whispered in the shadows...ebay. (Cue: Evil Laugh.) Needless to say, I now own all the Godzilla films, a large assortment of other monster flicks, and no less then 40 vinyl action figures from the various films! (Yeah, I know, I know...) Well, broke I may be, but unhappy I most certainly am not! Unfortunately, being the only G-fan I know has its drawbacks. I am constantly ridiculed by my peers and even my closest friends for persuing my passion, and I cannot take my copy of David Kalat's book A Critical History and Filmography of Toho's Godzilla Series anywhere without someone pointing at it and either laughing or singing a verse from the Blue Oyster Cult's famous song. In addition, I usually cannot watch any of the films with anyone but myself. Even in the rare event that I am permitted to view one of the movies in the company of my family, I am usually embarrassed when something silly happens (like Godzilla doing something a little too anthropomorphic or a wire standing out) or when the already horrendous dubbing takes a turn for the worst. As a result, I am resorted to watching the films in solitude for the most part. In my entire life, I have never...that's right, never...met another Godzilla fan. Ever. But I live in hope, dear friends. I live in hope...
(Note: Since writing THAT pathetic cry for help, I have since attended G-FEST twice, durring the latter of which I made some truely AMAZING friends. I guess dreams really do come true after all!)
Well, that's enough of my autobiography. Now on to the good stuff; the stuff that brings G-fans like me and you to this site: the freedom to communicate ideas. I guess that the only thing that keeps me going with this Godzilla stuff is knowing that there are people out there who are just as passionate about the big guy as I am. This site has allowed fans like me to indulge in our fandom not only by reading about it, but by adding to it. I can honestly say that I consider it quite a privilege to be able to add my knowledge to this site to be read by fellow fans. I check each fact and detail before placing it on the site to assure that it is accurate. I try my best not to place any personal preferences and opinions in my additions and edits. I also attempt to type everything accurately in terms of grammar and spelling, but I will occasionally make mistakes (hey, I'm not perfect). I will usually go through a page after I have changed it to check for mistakes, but some will slip through, and for that I am sorry. I aim for providing accurate information on the many monsters Toho has created through out the years, as well as the movies that they star in. I also have a knack for digging up interesting little tid-bits of information that many people may not know about the back stories of the monsters, films, and the people who created them. A warning though: I am very specific and place a lot of details and information within my work. (If you don't believe me, just read my plot synopsis' for Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II and King Kong Escapes!) Anyway, I hope my changes and additions to this site are satisfactory and enjoyable to read. As an administrator, I hope to continue to help this site grow in information, and to continue making sure that the information is accurate and, above all, fun to read! After all, that's what Godzilla fandom is all about: fun! If you have any comments, leave em' on my Talk Page! Have fun, and oh, by the way...GO GODZILLA! LONG LIVE THE KING OF THE MONSTERS!!!!!!!
P.S. If you are wondering what I look like, then....well, lets just say that there is a good reason that I have not placed a picture of myself on this site! (Yikes...)
My favorite Monsters and Films
- In terms of films.......I LOVE THEM ALL!!!!!!! (Well, I really love Gojira (yes, the Japanese version)). Besides the Godzilla films, my other favorite monster flicks include King Kong (both the original 1933 masterpiece and Peter Jackson's freaking awesome 2005 remake), Daiei's Heisei Gamera Trilogy, and Toho's Rodan, Mothra, War of the Gargantuas, King Kong Escapes, and the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy.
- Now, in terms of the kaiju.......well, Godzilla is clearly my favorite, but I also like Mothra (especially the different incarnations of Mothra Leo that appeared in the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy), as well as King Ghidorah, Rodan, and...ah, what the heck, I LOVE THEM ALL TO!!!!!!! (Yes, even Minilla and Zilla).
- Some other favorite films of mine include: The Day the Earth Stood Still (don't worry, the original), the Star Wars saga (the original three are still the best), Dragonheart (what, you have never seen it? Huh? Huh? HUH? WATCH IT...), the Jurrasic Park trilogy, Flyboys, the Planet of the Apes saga (not including Tim Burton's crummy remake), Spirited Away (now there's a great movie...), Hellboy, Hellboy II, and the Terminator series. There are more...MANY more, but I think that's enough for now...
